This demonstration is pretty incredible. The software performs calculations on the entropy of an image (amongst other things), to allow you to resize it whilst maintaining key visual entities. Some examples include mountains, tree-lines or people.

Other features include the ability to assign positive and negative weights to areas to make sure they are not distorted too much, or drop them out of existence entirely.

Hi,
If you are looking for a software to try out seam carving, take a look at http://www.thegedanken.com/retarget

The program that you can download there (for Windows and Linux, and free) is already highly optimized concerning speed, and apart from enlarging or decreasing image size you can also use masks to protect or delete certain parts of your image.

Have fun,
Irmgard

Cool, I'll try it on my site, moreover I have been looking for something like that - lots of graphics on my site and sometimes it's a pain to arrange it alongside with textual information.

I guess image resizing is taken to the next level.
I’ve discovered a great tool at reshade.com that does high quality image resizing. The results that I’ve got using their tool were great. The sharpness and accuracy was preserved at any zoom factor. I simply can’t believe there is room for improvement.
I guess I’ll have to wait and see what is going to happened next.
