PaperVision3D Tron Lightcycles - Sneaky Screenshot

So I'm on day 2 of a project I'm un-imaginatively calling "PaperTron", my first foray into making a game with PV3D, and I thought I'd post up a little screenshot of what we have so far:

I hope this shouldn't take too long, but considering it's taken well over 2 weeks to make myself spend the time I have, it could take a while ultimately . Either way, it's a lot of fun, and PaperVision 3D makes it pretty easy, let's face it, if you've ever done any 3D in Flash before, it's not easy, so anything that helps you do just the fun stuff is great in my books.

So I hope to have something playable soon, the aim is to hook this up to a multi-user server. Right now I'm not too bothered about the graphics, I'm going to re-model the cycle as a one-piece (it's 5 atm) to improve artifacts and I'll be replacing the floor with a Mode-7 engine to see what sort of result that gets in terms of looks and speed.

p.s. GlowFilter will be employed at some point for the cycles, quick tests show this works fine without performance hit...

I should also note that right now I plan to release all the source and assets for this when it is in decent shape.

Just make sure you make the controls a little easier than the X-Wing game ;-)

Hey guys,

Yeah with the X-Wing game I found that once I learned the controls (you have to use a mouse), it was fine, but at first it was a little tricky.

The controls in light-cycle are digital anyway, left and right is all you have, with the option for some extras like boost, perhaps camera change.

Hello,

This looks great. It's been a few months since you blogged this. You should release the code in whatever state it's in. There are not a whole lot of papervision game examples out there. And the community could use some :)

I take that back, it's only been one month :) Dang non-U.S. formatting!!

Regardless, I am really excited to see the source code for this game!

I never did understand the ordering of US dates ;) (month/day/year), the UK isn't much better (day/month/year), I like the way the Japanese format dates, best for easy sorting (year/month/day).

Very big workload on at the moment, but this will happen at some point!
